The best way to understand a place is not through a guidebook, but through the people who live there. I know the streets, the alleys, the landscapes and the stories of Falun. Falun Unlocked was created to share that local perspective through small, personal experiences.
From Sri Lanka to the Great Copper Mountain
It all really started just before the pandemic. My wife and I were travelling around Sri Lanka and met a couple of amazing local guides who took us through Fort Galle and other places. They didn't just share the sights but also their own stories and their pride in the place they called home. Somewhere between the spice markets and the colonial facades an idea was born: what if something similar could be offered back home in Falun?
With my deep interest in flavours and food culture the ideas soon multiplied. But covid put everything on hold. Nobody was meeting anyone and most plans were shelved. The ideas were left to ferment, much like a good sourdough.
Then in February 2026 I read an article in the local newspaper about new guides being trained for the Falun World Heritage Site and knew right away it was the right path. Pride in Falun and Dalarna has always been there, along with a love of history. What fascinates me most is the modern history of Stora Kopparberg and the mark the company has left on Swedish industrial history.
And so here we are. Now I'm building what we dreamed about on the other side of the world, but here at home.

Falun Unlocked is for curious visitors, locals and anyone who wants to experience Falun beyond the obvious highlights.

Small groups by design
Every Falun Unlocked experience will be intentionally small. Small groups create space for conversation, storytelling and a more personal atmosphere. Instead of large tour groups, guests will discover Falun together in a smaller circle.
From training to the first experience
I'm currently training to become a certified guide. In the meantime, I've quietly launched the first Falun Unlocked experiences. Follow the journey, the training and the stories I find along the way.
